Job Description

Prepare, serve and sell school meals.  Follow recipes and chop, combine and cook foods to the proper temperature.  This position requires making sure the quantity of food prepared is sufficient and that meals are served on time.  Monitor food service equipment and report problems to the Manager.  Maintain records such as worksheets, meal counts, amount cooked and left over. Receive, check in and put away weekly orders from several different vendors.  Clean and sanitize work areas, including cleaning counters, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning walk-ins, cleaning and organizing storerooms; maintaining safety and food handling practices as set by county, state, and local authorities.

*In the absence of the manager - Assume responsibility of operation assist food service workers/assistants as needed. of the food service kitchen.

 

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.  Three years experience in school food service or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience preferred.  Good Physical health.  Must have a current food handlers card prior to beginning work.  Some supervisory experience and experience working in an educational environment is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must have knowledge of: proper methods of planning, preparing, cooking, baking and serving foods in large quantities, kitchen sanitation and safety precautions, operation, cleaning and caring for kitchen equipment. Must have ability to work with recipes, portion control and menu factoring.  Ability to instruct and supervise personnel at the direction of the manager.  Ability to work with entire school staff, students and co-workers.  Willing to perform duties assigned by the manager.  Good oral and written communication skills and basic math skills.  Ability to utilize computer programs currently available in food service operation.  Ability to assume responsibility for operation of the food service program in the absence of the manager.  Ability to stand for long periods of time and work in a fast-paced environment.  Positive human relations skills are required. Ability to maintain a positive and appropriate relationship with students, parents and staff is critical.  Ability to prioritize work and maintain professional demeanor in stressful and hectic situations; ability to work successfully in a team-oriented environment

 

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ability to stoop, twist, bend, reach, and grasp with high frequency; good eye-hand coordination; ability to stand for long periods on hard surfaces that may be slippery when wet; ability to lift up to 50 pounds infrequently and 20 pounds routinely. Position is exposed to frequent temperature extremes while working in hot humid dish room, over heated food service areas, and entering walk-in freezers.

 

Salary Range

Consistent with the current Classified Staff salary schedule.
