Educational Assistant

Lincoln Middle School: 

6 Hours/day

 

Position Summary:

The Physical Support Educational Assistant – Physical Support Specialist provides direct, individualized support to students with physical limitations to ensure full access to the educational environment. This role includes assisting with mobility, daily living activities, classroom participation, and any accommodations outlined in a student’s IEP or 504 Plan. The assistant works closely with the student’s educational teams to promote independence, dignity, and academic success.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a few students with physical disabilities across all school settings (classroom, cafeteria, playground, etc.)

  • Assist with mobility needs, including transferring, positioning, and use of mobility equipment (e.g., wheelchair, walker)

  • Support with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting, and hygiene, as required

  • Facilitate the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology

  • Modify and adapt classroom materials under teacher direction to support physical access and learning

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement accommodations and support strategies

  • Encourage and support student independence and self-advocacy whenever possible

  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district and legal guidelines related to student privacy and care


Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to safely lift, transfer, and physically support a student as needed (training provided)

Preferred:

  • CPR/First Aid certification

  • Familiarity with assistive technology or mobility equipment

  • Experience working with middle school age students

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to follow individualized support plans and teacher directions

  • Willingness to engage in physical tasks and maintain student dignity

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to student needs


Work Environment:

  • School environment with indoor and outdoor activities

  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and physical interaction with student

 

General Description

Under the supervision of the building administrators, the educational assistant provides support to teachers and students as a behavior support, in supervison duties, supporting instruction, or other duties as assigned.

Salary

Salary will be entry level rate for Educational Assistants.
