Cottage Grove High School is seeking a College and Career Counselor starting the 2024-2025 school year who is skilled at creating both meaningful relationships and helping students plan for their future after high school. This permanent position would be the lead position in the college and career office, and partner with all school staff with the mission to partner with parents and the community to help students find their direction for their future.

 

Cottage Grove High School has 650 students in grades 9-12 and promotes a welcoming and positive experience for all students. CGHS prides itself in offering students a wide variety of courses, opportunities and experiences to challenge and prepare them for tomorrow. CGHS strives to be a local leader in CTE, technology and instruction.

 

General Description

Under the supervision of the building administrator, the College and Career Specialist will work throughout the school year and during the summer to facilitate academic and workplace success. This position is a full-time position that may require flexible hours. The contract is for 190 days (September-June), but additional hours in August may be required.

 

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the Career Center at Cottage Grove High School
  • Collaboration with Cottage Grove High School staff about college and career opportunities
  • Collaboration with businesses and community agencies, including the Chamber of Commerce
  • Employer recruitment, job matching, and on the job placement, training, and internships for students
  • Organization of mentors for Aspire program
  • Communicate college and career events in multiple forms in including bulletin boards and the school website
  • Organization of freshmen business experiences
  • Organization of annual career fair
  • Recruitment and coordination of guest speakers
  • Small group instruction with students on college and career topics

 

Qualifications

  • Valid Oregon TSPC license with a counselor endorsement (or be able to obtain one)
    counseling certificate with a (or the ability to obtain)
  • Experience in counseling at the secondary level
  • Demonstrated abilities to plan and implement activities, both on and off campus, to provide students with experiences and knowledge about their post-high school options
  • Experience working with businesses and the community (employer recruitment, job matching,and on-the-job training)

  • Experience working with students

  • Good communication and public presentation skills

  • Ability to model appropriate image to professional staff and businesses, as well as orient and train students

  • General computer hardware and software knowledge (email, Microsoft Office, CIS, Google Docs)

Preferred Qualities

  • Evidence of multi-cultural experience and cultural competency
  • Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred
  • Willingness to coach and/or advise sports, clubs or activities 
  • Type 20 Driver’s license endorsement

Salary

Salary will be determined by the experience and degree level in accordance with the licensed

salary schedule.
