Definition:
Responsible for the safety and enjoyment of patrons and staff; enforces safety rules, maintains facilities cleanliness and supports aquatics recreation management with effectively managing the daily facility operations and activities.
This position is full/part time with variable hours and receives supervision from a Head Guard, Aquatics Pool Coordinator and Pool Manager.
Receives lead direction from Head Lifeguard.
Examples of Duties - Duties May include but are not limited to, the following:
- Provides lifeguarding services for assigned classes and activities. This includes swimming, fitness, recreational, and private events. Provide instruction on the proper use of facilities and equipment.
- Enforces pool safety rules and regulations: prevents and responds to emergencies; and renders first aid including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Maintains facility; provides general custodial duties and reports needed repairs or safety hazards promptly to supervisor.
- Interacts with patrons by responding to inquiries and questions; creates and completes incident/accident reports; and supports administrative staff with registration and front desk duties.
- Create a positive experience for patrons and community members through professional and courteous behavior.
- Practice safe work habits and contribute to the physical and emotional safety of self, co-worker, patrons and the general public.
- Respect and promote inclusion, equity and diversity in the workplace. Provide a safe and inclusive environment for patrons and co-workers.
- Attend Staff training and participate in meetings as required or requested by supervisors.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
Educations and Experience:
Non required other than certifications noted below.
If over 18 years old must pass a background check.
Required Licenses or Certificates (possession at time or hire or ability to obtain before work begins):
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid Certification
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Emergency response and lifeguarding
- Comfort in water, ability to swim, and water safety principles.
- Administration of First Aid and CPR
- Work cooperatively with others and develop effective working relationships with co-workers, patrons and persons with disabilities.
- React quickly and make effective decisions in an emergency situation and maintain emotional and professional composure.
- Communicate effectively and tactfully, both orally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds, including patrons and co-workers.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions and perform tasks independently.
Working Conditions:
Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to safely perform the assigned duties, with or without accommodations. Requires frequent movement with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and occasional overhead reaching. Frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds.
